Nature,
culture and handicraft The area located between Åkers Styckebruk and Gnesta has been given the name Åkers Bergslag. Ore, charcoal, limestone and manpower were taken from here to the blast furnaces at Åkers Styckebruk. Founded in 1580, Åkers Sweden AB is today one of Sweden's oldest operating companies. Canons have been cast here up until 1866, before being replaced by other products. Mining came to an end here at the beginning of 1940. The pits are numerous. A reconstructed shaft head can be found at Skottvång. Sweden's second largest preserved waterwheel, with a diameter of 13.7 m, can be found by Lake Göksjön. The old limestone quarry at Kalkbro and the spit at Krampan are today nature reserves. The naturally beautiful Marviken rift-valley stretches through the area - providing a paddling route in the summer and a trip skating route in the winter. Hiking trails wind there way through woodland rich in mushrooms and blueberries Click
